Holi is just approaching, and now is the time to prove that mainstream dialogue of “Bura naa maano Holi hai” is too mainstream when it comes to the modern era statement of “Bura naa maano Kohli hai”.
Actually, Kohli has proved from time to time that he is too worthy to be called from a different planet. He has been playing for 8+ years in ODIs, 5+ in Tests and 6+ years in T20s. Talking numerically, out of his 92 innings in Test Matches, this superhuman has made 17 tons and out of 171 innings in ODIs, he has made 27. This guy averages 50+ in all three formats of the game. I mean seriously you can’t get better than him, Can You?
In the segment of T20 where even the 30+ score is considered above par, he has scored 16 half centuries. Everytime this man gets onto the field, he breaks some record or the other. Yesterday he became the first ever batsmen to score 4 double tons consecutively in 4 series. Let me be precise, without taking a break or two. He becomes a better batsman everytime he comes out to bat. I still remember his blows over the boundary rope to Malinga in Australia. I just couldn’t get over his flick over fine leg for a maximum, then he came up with the six in the T20 world cup over long off to Faulkner. These 2 shots were played at a very very crucial stage and indeed they took a long time to come. Lets take a moment to remember his short arm jag in Pune against Chris Woakes over long on in the 1st ODI of the series. This shot left the cricketing world in awe. He showed the similar touch with a similar shot over long-off to the same bowler but a bit straightish. From his shots to his leadership, this guy is improving day by day. Talking about his stats again and again and comparing him with the other legends of the game would make me a stereotype. So we should just not go there.
Yes, he is aggressive and yes he is too impulsive with taking the decisions. Although he has to learn a lot about leadership from MSD. But he has shown that he is a leader and can lead the team to victories. To prove the same, lets talk about the sudden Review that he took against England skipper Morgan and let’s compare it with Kohli’s decision to review Soumya Sarkar that resulted in Red Lights today.
He has peaked at a very young age and the pace at which he is ascending, he would surely attain Nirvana(breaking records of Sachin). His captaincy shows traits of both Legends, Sourav Ganguly as well as M S Dhoni. He has showed his class against every nation participating in international cricket. The legends of the game have already gone gaga over him and now is the time to see this guy take the game to another level. I would certainly tell my children about Kohli and advise them to show the same kind of dedication and determination in whatever field they choose!
